When Men in Black III re-starts production next month, Alice Eve will play the younger version of Men in Black Agency head Emma Thompson in the time travel storyline. The British actress plays Olivia, hired as secretary for the Agency in 1969. While it appears she was given the job because of her looks, Olivia is actually whip smart. Sure enough, in the contemporary storyline, Thompson runs the place. Will Smith’s Agent J character is forced to travel back in time to team up with the young Agent K (Josh Brolin) to save the world. Eve just completed production on The Decoy Bride and starred with John Cusack in The Raven. She’s repped by Untitled, UTA and Artists Right Group. MIB III has extended a pre-planned holiday hiatus. With a skeleton staff in place, the filmmakers are taking extra time to hone the script. Director Barry Sonnenfeld has already assembled the footage shot so far, and insiders said that the film is still on track for its May 25, 2012 release by Sony Pictures and Q Viva Marc Anthony ..

Though she was, yesterday, rumored to be in competition for a part in Zack Snyder’s Superman, Diane Kruger now says there’s no truth to the story.

“No,” the actress said today, immediately following the press conference for her latest film, Unknown, “it’s not true.”

Kruger was allegedly in competition against both Alice Eve and Rosamund Pike for an unknown female lead, said not to be the character of Lois Lane. While it’s possible that even her denial is part of the secretive nature of the project, it does cast some doubt on the rumors currently linked to both the part and to the alleged short list.

An official cast is expected to be announced soon, though, as filming on Superman is expected to start this summer for a December, 2012 release.

With Henry Cavill set for Zack Snyder’s Superman, the attention is shifting to the female lead, and Variety is reporting that three actresses are in contention for the role – though it’s not Lois Lane. Alice Eve is mentioned among the actresses. This would be wonderful for her! But keep in mind its just a rumor.

Filming is expected to start this summer for a December, 2012 release.

The Press release:

With Henry Cavill set as the Man of Steel, Warner Bros. now moves on to its female lead, and a short list of contenders is coming together.

Alice Eve, Diane Kruger and Rosamund Pike have emerged as the three thesps being considered for the character, whose identity hasn’t been disclosed — but it’s not Lois Lane.

Early reports had names such as Rachel McAdams and Kristen Stewart as female leads, but sources tell Variety that the studio doesn’t want a name that could overshadow its leading man.

Eve has the most modest resume, but has seen her profile grow in the last year after starring in Paramount’s She’s Out of My League. Besides Superman, Eve was also considered one of the front runners for roles in X-Men: First Class and Captain America: The First Avenger.

Pike has been on Hollywood’s radar since her turn as a Bond girl in Die Another Day and has since had several supporting roles, including An Education and Barney’s Version.

Kruger has had significant leads in both National Treasure pics, Troy and Inglourious Basterds — but this would mark one of the biggest leading roles she has landed.

Studio is also currently putting a search out for its villain as well, but no names have been set in stone.

Zack Snyder is directing from a script by David Goyer with Christopher Nolan producing. Studio is looking to start production this summer with a December 2012 release date.

Relativity Media announced today that it has acquired U.S. rights to market and distribute Intrepid Pictures’ The Raven, directed by James McTeigue (V For Vendetta) and starring John Cusack (2012, 1408).

The film also stars Luke Evans (Clash of the Titans), Alice Eve (Sex and the City 2), Brendan Gleeson (Harry Potter Series) and Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Faster). The script was written by Ben Livingston (Bruce Almighty) and Hannah Shakespeare (Loverboy).

The Raven is a fictionalized account of the final days of gothic writer Edgar Allan Poe as he tracks a serial killer whose crimes mirror works by the famous author.

Trevor Macy and Marc D. Evans are producing for Intrepid, alongside Aaron Ryder for FilmNation, who brought the project to Intrepid. Galavis Films’ Jesus Martinez is executive producing. FilmNation is selling international distribution rights to the film. Principal photography on The Raven began in November in Hungary, with a move to Serbia in December. Production wrapped in January.

“We’re excited to partner with the Relativity team on this thrilling feature, which capitalizes on the popularity of Edgar Allen Poe and his classic tales,” said Macy and Evans in a joint statement. “We’re also very pleased that Relativity is committed to helping deliver this film to the widest possible audience.”

“Edgar Allen Poe’s name is synonymous with legendary tales of suspense, and we love the idea of a thriller with Poe at its center, McTeigue at the helm and a talented cast bringing it all to life,” said Relativity’s President of Worldwide Production, Tucker Tooley.

Today, January 19th, makes the 202nd anniversary of American writer, poet, editor, and literary critic Edgar Allan Poe’s birth; and actor John Cusack took a little time out of his busy schedule filming James McTeigue’s The Raven to tweet some birthday greetings.

Below you’ll find a portrait of Poe along with a behind-the-scenes shot from the set of The Raven. Cusack’s tweets (typos included!) are below each photo.

Also starring Ewan McGregor, Luke Evans, and Alice Eve, The Raven is set in the last days of Edgar Allan Poe’s life, when he gets wrapped up in a serial killer investigation. Evans will play a detective who partners with Poe (Cusack) to search for a serial killer who has kidnapped the author’s fiancee (Eve) and has gone on a murder spree that mimics the author’s work.

“We are planning for a lot of gore,” McTeigue told Dread Central in an earlier interview. “With Poe, I would be remiss in not including some gory stuff, especially within the context of his work. There are so many incredible macabre and paranoid elements in what Poe accomplished as a writer so I want to bring those to the big screen. I want to put audiences in 1850s Baltimore, but the twist is that I want it to come from the way I imagined Poe saw the world, not necessarily what was really happening at that time, and give it a bit of a pop twist on top of that.”

“The Raven will look at a serial killer that uses Poe’s work as inspiration so there will be fictionalized elements to the film. I would still like to stay true to the character he was, but I also don’t want to make a Poe biopic either. So there will be some dark themes running throughout the movie that may just touch on some of what we know about Poe’s life,” McTeigue added.
